Come again?

Gahh! I just allowed Ella to have a lolly-pop but I told her she had to promise to eat some salad I was making afterward. I showed her my salad bowl and said "see, when you are all done you can have some."
She said "No Mommy, I should eat the healthy food first!".
I was a little flabbergasted so I said "Oh, should I take your lolly-pop until you eat some salad first?"
"No" (I started to feel the world was a normal place again, BUT THEN...) "I'll give it to you. Here"
She then handed me the lolly-pop and took my bowl of salad. While I stood there. And gaped.
What just happened?

She is now humming and eating ALL of the salad. Including the tomatoes. Which she hates.

I just had to share this so I could look back and believe it really happened.

Token's candle

I've started a new bed time ritual with Ella. I got the idea from two books, my favorite parenting book here, and a cute kids book here. So every night we light Token's candle(Token being a giant blue cat), to wake him up. He comes and sits outside Ella's window and keeps her safe, brings her good dreams and chases away the nightmares. After we say prayers she blows out the candle. She is so into this that when I ran out of matches one night she started crying and saying she didn't want to get nightmares! Ooops, this was supposed to be comforting... I had to have a very one sided conversation with Token to wake him up. He was pretty grumpy about not having his candle lit, but Ella apologized and he felt much better.

Anyone want to give me a bigger bed?

You can sort of make out a funny redness to Ella's face in the last picture. She had a pretty bed allergic reaction to something. It's cleared up now, and hopefully we'll find out what it is when she goes to the allergist on Friday.

Flowers

There has been much floral related goings on for me lately. First I read on another blog (here) about making floral jelly with violets and dandelions. Sarah and I tried it with a little help from Elanor. She definitely helps me eat it though. I think she is probably the only kid at school with peanut butter and violet jelly sandwiches...

They're so pretty

Finished Product

In other floral news, I got a quite a few birthday presents with a flowery theme. Included is lilacs, some rosewater, rose scented essential oil, and a painting of flowers. What a nice time of year!

WIP- second in a row!

Well! This is the second Wednesday in a row that I've been able to post! Thanks to a little help from my friend(got the Beatles song in my head now), I finally got the time to finish Ella's pillowcase dress. Just in time for the warm weather!

 She really loved it

I love the ribbon she picked for the ties, so sweet :)

I also finished Molly Doll's scarf this week, but I think I'm going to save it and give it to Ella next winter. I'll put her scarf away too (it got too warm for her to need it as soon as it was done!) and bring them out together next year. Maybe for Martinmas.

I think they will look very stylish

This morning we also went outside to look at some little ferns popping up in our front yard.

  She called them "baby ones"

  She was very gentle.
She asked me where their mommy was and I told her the earth is their mommy. I love spring! Now we are off to the farm, and I'm going to bring my camera today. Maybe I'll have more pictures to post later!

Long time no post

I have been SO busy lately! I don't even have time right now to write a full update, so I'm just going to do a quick photo time line, starting with the earlier stuff first.

We were getting ready to go out to "Frolic" (a dance in our area) and Ella fell asleep on the counter!

Another Tiger day! My good friend Katie as Q. T. Pie the clown at the Pizza Barn

For March I knit another scarf, this one for Ella. She likes it as a skirt...
I keep meaning to make a little one for Molly Doll

Our wine club

 February/March wine was Cabernet

One of the first warm days of the season

She got right in the water!

It was a beautiful place for a picnic

 We made candles one day

Yesterday was Easter

Ella found Eggs and her basket

She looked very cool in the car...

Here she is hopping into a "mest"(nest) like the Easter bunny

Well there is my life summed up since I last posted. Gosh I'm a lucky lady!

A late part two

Well I have been pretty busy, and haven't had time to post, but I finished the scarf.... It's pretty short and wobbly, but hopefully my mom won't care! Now I'm going to try one for Ella, at her request.

She modeled it for me two different days, in two different dress-up outfits

And here are some pictures of the long time coming pillowcase dress. I guess it doesn't really need to be done until summer...

Here is the first sleeve with the bias tape

Hopefully Part One!

I do hope to make another post today, centered around WIP. But I had a special request I wanted to honor. So here is my cleaning around the house look in all its glory:

I couldn't get a good shot

This is one of my favorite around the house shirts, a man's shirt from Mexico

And here is my braid

So I also haven't had a chance to post my photos from the 14th. No, not hearts and roses, tigers!

Here is Ella celebrating the Chinese New Year
(If you can't guess it's the year of the Tiger)

GRRRRRRR!

Ella was actually born in the year of the Dog, but I really was born in the year of the Tiger. Hopefully this will be my year!

Overdue

I posted a link to WIP Wednesday, which I joined, and then I didn't have time to actually post my work in progress! I finished my first knitting project ever, which started as a scarf for my mother and somehow ended up a blanket for Ella's doll Molly...

Oh well, at least she's happy! I started a new scarf for my mom, and also got the material I need to make three more bags and finish Ella's dress.

Ella took this picture

I have been teaching Ella how to use the camera, and she loves it. She gets very excited when she can figure out how to point the camera at what she is trying to capture.

Yesterday

Yesterday I started making a pillowcase dress for Ella. I think I could have made the whole thing, but I need some bias tape and have no car this week. Being without a car has been tough, but in many ways a blessing. Not unlike having no phone, it seriously cuts down on the self-inflicted stress of "should-bes" and "should-haves"(as in "I should be doing such-and-such right now"). I have been getting a little creative in the kitchen also, considering I have no way of going grocery shopping. Around the beginning of the year a strange sense of peacefulness descended on me, and no matter what other emotions crop up, I keep defaulting back to it...
How wonderful!

Goodbye January!

January is over at midnight tonight, and I feel well on my way to a great year! I finished making my first sewing (machine) project today, and I'm going to try to keep making them throughout the year.

Yesterday was a beautiful full moon, and mars was very visible next to it. I tried to take a picture but my camera did NOT want to participate.

And lastly, here are my cute cats :)

See you in February!

Ella's dance!

I only have two good pictures, but here they are as promised!

She was nervous at first

Here she is at the end getting a rose

I have some very cute video, but all of the pictures have other little girls blocking her. Those kids move fast!

I really like all of my classes this semester, and participating in a Yoga class twice a week is such a relief! There is even inspiration to be found in the locker room bathroom:

Uhhhhhg

School is taking up a lot of my time, Ella and I are sick, and I have a million other things going on right now. I'm so busy! I just wanted to keep posting so I wouldn't forget.

No camera!

I can't post any pictures today because I don't have my camera on me! I've started school again this past week, so I have had a hard time finding time to post. I feel very positive and happy about school though, and I have been getting a lot done. Yesterday night was Ella's first dance recital, so I'll post some pictures as soon as I get my camera back. Things are going smoothly, and so far 2010 has been a blessing!

Rice and Beans

I had a bit of stress today, Ella would NOT take a nap, and I wasted four hours trying to convince her...I didn't get everything that I wanted to accomplish done today, but I did get a big chunk out of the way. Here are some  pictures of the progress in my room today:

I also made really yummy rice and beans for dinner, which was great because we are vegetarians. I usually find myself rushing around and the dinners I make are not always completely balanced. Another goal!
